A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.

“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
